The Story Behind “La Luna y El Sol”

  • by

La Luna y El Sol PROTOTIPO is more than a new song. It is a story that began years ago and has now found a new life through reggae, animation, and the creative world of PROTOTIPO.

The Story Behind La Luna y El Sol PROTOTIPO

Some songs belong to a particular moment. Others seem to wait patiently until the right moment arrives.

“La Luna y El Sol” is one of those songs.

The story of the song goes back to 1996, long before the current chapter of PROTOTIPO. Years later, the song returned with a new sound, a new production, and an entirely new visual world.

But at its heart, the idea remained beautifully simple: the Moon and the Sun — two characters from different worlds, drawn toward each other.

Two Worlds, One Story

The Moon and the Sun seem destined to exist apart.

One belongs to the night. The other to the day. They can share the same sky, yet they appear to live in completely different worlds.

That contrast became the emotional foundation of “La Luna y El Sol.”

Rather than treating the Moon and the Sun simply as celestial objects, we imagined them as characters with feelings, personalities, curiosity, and the possibility of discovering something unexpected in each other.

From there, a love story began to take shape.

A field of flowers. A flower shop. Boxes waiting to be filled. A quiet glance. A moment of hesitation. A simple gift of flowers.

Small moments became part of a much larger universe.

Turning the Song Into a Visual World

The visual world of La Luna y El Sol PROTOTIPO brings the song’s characters to life through handcrafted-looking stop-motion animation.

When it was time to create the music video, we didn’t want to simply illustrate the lyrics.

We wanted to build a world.

That decision led us to the distinctive clay and stop-motion-inspired aesthetic of La Luna y El Sol. The characters, flowers, landscapes, buildings, and even the smallest objects were designed to feel as though they belonged to the same handcrafted universe.

Warm colors and playful shapes gave the story its charm, while the imperfections and textures of the clay-inspired world helped make the characters feel surprisingly human.

The goal wasn’t realism.

The goal was emotion.

Building a Story, Scene by Scene

Creating the video became much more than producing a collection of beautiful images.

Every scene had to connect to the next.

The characters needed to remain recognizable. Their colors, proportions, clothing, expressions, and personalities had to stay consistent as they moved through different locations and moments in the story.

We developed the visual narrative scene by scene: the flower field, the flower shop, the growing connection between the characters, the shy exchange of flowers, and eventually a journey beyond their small world into something much larger.

At certain moments, the story expands all the way into the cosmos.

The Moon and the Sun are no longer simply two characters standing beside each other. Their relationship becomes part of the universe surrounding them.

Where Music and Technology Meet

The production of La Luna y El Sol also became an experiment in modern visual storytelling.

We combined traditional ideas from filmmaking — character design, composition, lighting, camera movement, editing, pacing, and storytelling — with a new generation of creative technology.

Artificial intelligence became one of the tools used throughout that process, helping us explore environments, develop shots, animate ideas, and transform concepts into moving images.

But technology alone doesn’t tell a story.

Every image still required a creative decision: Where should the camera be? What should the character be feeling? How should the light change the mood? What should happen before and after this moment?

Those decisions are what eventually transformed individual images into a music video.

A Song From the Past, Reimagined for Today

Perhaps the most meaningful part of La Luna y El Sol is the distance between where the song began and where it eventually arrived.

An idea that existed years ago found a completely new life through PROTOTIPO.

The music evolved.

The production evolved.

And eventually, two characters emerged from the song itself — a Moon and a Sun with their own little world and their own story to tell.

More than two decades after the song’s earliest beginnings, “La Luna y El Sol” found its moment.

And sometimes, just like the characters in the story, the right things simply have to wait until their worlds finally meet.

With La Luna y El Sol PROTOTIPO, the band continues building a visual identity around its music and storytelling.
